Power Armor

General

The Power Armor datapack introduces a fully functional Power Armor system inspired by the Fallout series, specifically Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. Unlike traditional armor, Power Armor must be crafted as a Power Armor Frame, placed in the world, and powered using redstone blocks . Once powered, players can enter the suit for enhanced protection and abilities. The armor can be customized with different Power Armor pieces, each boosting player stats. Exiting the suit is as simple as sneaking while looking down , and any remaining power stays in the suit for future use.

Armor

The core part of the Power Armor are the pieces of power armor. Without power armor pieces, there is little benefit to entering power armor. There are four sets of power armor. Each set is cheaper or more expensive than the others. The power of each set is directly related to the cost.

Currently, in the Power Armor datapack, there are three sets of armor that are uncraftable; which means the only way to get these sets of armor is with commands. These sets of armor will most likely be fully added to the game at some point in time.

Usage & Abilities

Usage

Power Armor, while simple once understood, can be complex to begin with.

To start, one must craft a Power Armor Frame. The frame, once crafted, can be placed down like a block.

Crafting Recipe

4x - Iron Ingot

2x - Iron Block

1x - Gold Ingot

1x - Redstone Block

Once the suit is placed down, it must be powered with redstone blocks. To power the suit, simply right-click on the back. Each redstone block added gives four minutes of power to the suit. A fully-powered suit of power armor will last for an hour before needing to be recharged. The suit will not lose power while inactive.

Once the suit is powered, you may enter it by right-clicking on the back of the suit with an empty hand. To leave the suit, crouch/sneak and look straight down at the same time. After a few seconds, you will leave the suit.

To add pieces of armor to the suit, right-click on the front of the suit while holding the desired piece of armor. To take a piece of armor of the suit, right-click on the piece of armor you wish to take off. Besides the helmet, armor cannot be changed while inside of the suit.

When a player dies while in power armor, the suit will be left at the spot where they died. This will also occur even with the keepInventory gamerule enabled.

Abilities

Most of the changes brought to player behavior and general gameplay come from the individual pieces of power armor present on the suit. However, there are numerous changes that will occur to power armor-wearing players regardless of what pieces they have equipped.

Player Height Change

Players, when in a suit of power armor, are noticeably taller. While this may seem awesome at first, it is actually a rather large downside of being in power armor. Players no longer fit easily through 2-block-tall gaps. In order to pass through, they must crouch/sneak.

Changed Water Dynamics

When inside a power armor suit, players will behave differently when in water. The first of these changes is the increase to the player's water_movement_efficiency and submerged_mining_speed stats. With the first stat being set to 0.2 and the second being set to 1.

Players will also sink to the bottom when they try to swim whilst in power armor. It is still possible to swim upwards, but it is a very slow process. Not to mention, you may sink back down when you fall back down after your initial bob upwards.

In addition, players will also receive blindness when fully submerged in water, very similar to how power armor visibility is underwater in the Fallout titles.

Ground Pound

One may have noticed the stat increases to Safe Fall Distance that comes with many pieces of power armor. While the higher Safe Fall Distance stat makes it easier to survive dangerous falls, it also makes ground pounds easier to perform.

Regardless of the pieces worn, players in power armor can fall from high distances to perform ground pounds. The higher the fall, the more damage is dealt to any surrounding mobs.

Commands

Currently, there are only a few commands that operators can use to get more out of their experience with Power Armor.

You can give yourself any item added by this datapack by running the command:
